Biography:

Dr P T Deota is currently working as Professor in Applied Chemistry Department, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara, India. He has 30 years of teaching and research experience. He has served as Head of the Applied Chemistry Department, The M S University of Baroda and as Vice Dean, Faculty of Technology & Engineering, The M S University of Baroda, Vadodara, India. He has also served as an expert, chairman and committee member of various academic as well as administrative committees. His research interests include development of novel factor Xa inhibitors, prostaglandin analogues and homologues, photostabilizers and photochemical rearrangements in excited states, novel strained alicyclics, mosquito repellants. He completed his PhD in organic synthesis from The M S University of Baroda and then also worked as Research Associate at IIT, Mumbai. He has mentored MSc (60), PhD(5) and undergraduate (3) students. During his tenure, the department has been awarded grants under Funds for Infrastructure Development (FIST) from DST (Rs 34 Lakhs, 2010-15), Infrastructure grants of (Rs 40 lakhs, 2011 and 2012) from UGC. He is also Coordinator, Centre of Excellence in Polymers with a grants of Rs 5 crores from Gujarat Government. He was a recipient of a prestigious Science & Technology Agency (STA) fellowship from Ministry of Science & Technology, Japan and worked at National Institute of Materials and Chemical Research (NIMC), Tsukuba, Japan. He has also served as a Resource Person at Homi Bhabha Center for Science Education (TIFR, Mumbai) where he trained and accompanied as Group Leader-Mentor of the Indian team for participation in International Chemistry Olympiads (IChO 2010 and 2011) at Japan and Turkey and brought laurels for the country.
