Prof. Oleg Antipov

Biography:
Oleg Antipov is a leading researcher and the head of a solid state laser research group at the Institute of Applied Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IAP RAS), where he has been working since 1983. Oleg also holds a position of professor at Nizhniy Novgorod State University. His research interests include laser physics and nonlinear optics. He is the author of over 300 papers in high-impact international journals and conference proceedings.Oleg has 5 patents in laser science to his name.
His most significant scientific results are associated with:
- the mechanisms of the refractive index change under intense pumping of laser crystals, glasses and ceramics;
- self-pumped phase conjugation of a laser beam by stimulated scattering in nonlinear media with feedback loops, and development of high-power solid-state lasers with a self-adapting cavity completed by dynamic gratings;
- development of 2-3 µm laser sources based on crystals and ceramics doped with Tm3+, Ho3+ or Cr2+ ions, andnovel mid-IR optical parametric oscillators;
- low-threshold mode instability in fiber amplifiers;
- mechanisms of laser induced damage in nonlinear and laser crystals;
- development of hybrid fiber-bulk laser systems in near-infrared and mid-infrared spectral regions for medical applications.
