Biography:

Prof. Decheng Wan received his Ph.D from Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), China in 1994. He became a lecturer of Shanghai University in 1994, and was promoted to be an associate professor of Shanghai University in 1996. After successively worked as a research fellow of the Royal Society at University College London, UK, a senior research fellow at National University of Singapore, and a Wissenschaftliche Angestellter at Dortmund University, Germany from 1997 to 2005, he returned to Shanghai and was appointed as a full professor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2006. He was selected as a distinguished professor of Shanghai Eastern Scholar in 2008, and promoted as a chair professor of Chang Jiang Scholar (Top Professor in China) in 2014, and distinguished professor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2015, Shanghai excellent academic leader in 2017, etc. Currently, Prof. Wan is Director of Computational Marine Hydrodynamics Lab (CMHL, http://dcwan.sjtu.edu.cn/) at SJTU.  Prof. Wan is now the chair of ISOPE International Hydrodynamic Committee, member of Advisor Committee (AC) of International Towing Tank Conference (ITTC), associate editor-in-chief of Journal of Hydrodynamics, and member of editorial board of Ocean Engineering and Applied Ocean Research, etc.

His research interest is mainly on computational marine and coastal hydrodynamics, numerical marine basin, nonlinear wave theory, wave loads on structures, numerical analysis of riser vortex-induced vibration (VIV) and platform vortex-induced motion (VIM), fluid-structure interaction, offshore wind turbine and other offshore renewable resources, etc. In these areas, he has published over 580 papers and carried out more than 50 projects on marine hydrodynamics and computational hydrodynamics, has delivered over 100 invited or keynote presentations in international conferences. His remarkable work of development of numerical solvers in ship and ocean engineering have been recognized by the world-wide researchers in the field of marine hydrodynamics. Prof. Wan has been selected as World's Top 2% Scientists since 2020. He is awarded the Most Cited Chinese Researchers every year since 2018 by Elsevier, received CH Kim Award in 2020, ISOPE Award in 2020, Best paper of Moan-Faltinsen Award in 2020, etc.

Prof. Decheng Wan is director of Computational Marine Hydrodynamics Lab (CMHL) (http://dcwan.sjtu.edu.cn/) of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, distinguished professor of Chang Jiang Scholar and Shanghai Eastern Scholar, the adjunct full professor of University of Strathclyde of UK, Zhejiang University, Dalian University of Technology, respectively. He is also Shanghai Excellent Academic Leader, chair of ISOPE International Hydrodynamic Committee, chair of Executive Committee of International Workshop on Ship and Marine Hydrodynamics (IWSH), chair of Executive Committee of China National Conference on Marine CFD, member of Advisor Committee of International Towing Tank Conference (ITTC), member of Steering Committee of International CFD Workshop in Ship Hydrodynamics, associate editor-in-chief of Journal of Hydrodynamics, and member of editorial board of Ocean Engineering and Applied Ocean Research, etc.

His research interest is mainly on computational marine and coastal hydrodynamics, hydrodynamic CAE software, ship and ocean engineering, extreme sea conditions and wave loads, fluid-structure interaction, vortex-induced vibration, turbulence simulation and flow noise, offshore wind turbine and renewable energy device performance, optimization based on CFD and machine learning, ship prediction based on big data and in-depth learning, etc. He has published more than 300 peer-reviewed journal papers and has more than 60 patents and software copyrights. Prof. Decheng Wan has been selected as World's Top 2% Scientists and awarded the Most Cited Chinese Researchers every year since 2018.
