Prof. Valery Zorkaltsev
Baikal State University, Russia

Biography:

From 1972 to 2022, he worked at of the USSR Academy of Sciences of the USSR. Participated in research on optimization of options for the development of the fuel and energy complex of the USSR. Conducted theoretical and applied research on methods for detecting and predicting seasonal fluctuations in the USSR industry. Has been developing new optimization methods (interior point algorithms). He led a research group that was engaged in creating models for managing the functioning of the fuel and energy complex of the USSR under large-scale disturbances. He carried out a series of researches to find the optimal composition of means to ensure the reliability of fuel supply, to analyze the intensity and synchronicity of fluctuations in fuel needs based on 100-year meteorological observations in the economic regions of the USSR. He organized the development of economic and mathematical models for the analysis of options for the development of regional energy systems. He was the head of the Energy section in the scientific Council of the USSR Academy of Sciences on the economical problems of the North.
He worked as the head of the laboratory "modeling and optimization of energy systems" and head of the Department "Applied mathematics" at The Institute of Energy systems SB RAS (Irkutsk). He developed and researched optimization methods, mechanisms of functioning of energy systems in a market economy, price indices and inflationary processes, models of imperfect competition markets, and conducted theoretical research on comparative analysis of approximation methods.

For many years, he was the organizer of the Baikal international school "Optimization methods and their applications", the all-Russian scientific conference "Equilibrium models of economy and energy", and the scientific seminar "Insurance and risk".

In 2022 was elected to the Laboratory of Mathematical Modeling at Baikal State University.
