Title: The Impact of Oxidative Stress on Diabetes and Its Complications
Abstract:
Oxidative stress plays
a crucial role in the development of complications associated with diabetes,
particularly when it comes to the health of the heart and blood vessels. This
oxidative stress disrupts the metabolism of individuals with diabetes, leading
to excessive production of mitochondrial superoxide in the endothelial cells
found in both large and small blood vessels. The end results. Impaired
diastole, which is a critical aspect of heart function. One of the primary
pathological changes seen in individuals with diabetes is a dysfunction in the
ability of blood vessels to dilate, a condition known as vasodilation
dysfunction. This malfunction is the foundation for various diabetic vascular
complications, including atherosclerosis and other cardiovascular diseases.
Numerous studies have suggested a potential solution to this problem:
pomegranate flower polyphenols (PFP) extract.
PFP extract has shown
promise as a potent antioxidant that can lower blood sugar levels and combat
inflammation. Moreover, it has demonstrated the ability to enhance vasodilation
in the endothelial cells of diabetic rats. This is achieved by inhibiting the
production of endothelial-derived contracting factors such as endothelin-1,
angiotensin II, and thromboxane B2 while simultaneously increasing the
concentration of 6-keto-PGF1a in the bloodstream. In this context, our aim is
to highlight how PFP antioxidants can effectively counteract the detrimental
effects of oxidative stress and significantly improve diastolic relaxation in rats
with hyperglycemia. In essence, besides their role in diabetes treatment,
antioxidants hold the potential for numerous therapeutic benefits by mitigating
the negative impact of oxidative stress on the body.
