Title: Integrating Technology into EFL Classrooms: An Overview of the Challenges

Abstract:

Technology has dramatically changed the way we gather information, conduct research, and interact with others around the world. Technology has removed barriers to distance and made higher education effectively accessible to anyone. The integration of technology is increasingly used in education to improve teaching and learning. This rapid development of technology integration has provided a better model for finding new teaching models. As a result, it plays a key role in learning and teaching language skills. There are many benefits to integrating technology to create a platform for teaching and learning English skills. The main purpose of this paper is to review the challenges of integrating technology into EFL Classrooms. In this article, the researcher defines the term technology integration, states the reason for technology integration, explains the role of technology in promoting learning, describes the role of teachers and learners, reviews previous studies on the advantages of technology in learning and teaching language skills, and finally outlines tips for successful technology integration. A review of the literature showed that the integration of technology into the EFL classrooms significantly improves the learning and teaching of language skills.

Dr. Abbas Pourhosein Gilakjani is an Assistant Professor of TESOL (USM,  Malaysia) at Islamic Azad University, Lahijan, Iran where he teaches courses in English Language Teaching. His main research interests are human-computer interaction, CALL, language teaching methodologies, and research on English language teaching/learning.
