Title: Recent trends in surface modification of liposomes for drug delivery with special focus on cancer treatment

Abstract:

Successful use of pharmaceuticals is based on the ability of the carrier to deliver the drug at the targeted site especially in case of cancer treatment, while evading unintended interactions, endosomal sequestration and degradation. By developing targeted therapies or treatment of different cancers can be tremendously improved. . Liposomes are nano carriers that encapsulate their payloads protecting active ingredients from biological environments and degradation. Their use in nanomedicine has the ability to reshape the drug administration from improved specificity and prolonged circulation to decreased cytotoxicity and fewer negative side effects. The efficacy and functionality of liposomes can be further refined and enhanced through surface modification. by conjugating liposomes with various moieties, drug delivery can become much efficient targeted drug delivery system. This paper will discuss recent trends in surface modification of liposomes with an intention to deliver these for cancer targeting.
