Title: Social Emotional Learning in Education
Abstract:
Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is a cornerstone in fostering holistic educational environments that equip students with the competencies needed to navigate personal, social, and academic challenges effectively. This keynote delves into the critical role of SEL in education, highlighting its impact on students’ emotional intelligence, resilience, and overall well-being. Through the lens of evidence-based practices, I will explore the integration of SEL into curriculum design, the role of educators as facilitators of emotional growth, and strategies to create inclusive learning spaces. Additionally, the session will examine how SEL contributes to building stronger communities and prepares students for future challenges in a rapidly evolving world.
Biography:
Ts. Dr. Teoh Kok Ban currently serves as the Head of School at ViTrox College in Malaysia, overseeing the School of Industrial Management. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Statistics and a Master’s degree in Statistics from the School of Mathematical Sciences at Universiti Sains Malaysia and furthered his education with a doctorate in Organizational Behavior and Development from the same university’s School of Management, along with a second Master’s degree in Counseling from the School of Educational Studies.
In 2020, Ts. Dr. Teoh received recognition for his contributions, including the Best Presenter award at the Industry 4.0 Regional Conference, the Editors’ Pick at the International Postgraduate Symposium in Tourism and Hospitality, and the Best Poster award at the 6th ASIA International Conference. He is registered as a professional technologist by the Malaysian Board of Technologists (MBOT) and as a counselor with the Malaysian Board of Counselors (LKM). He is also accredited as a trainer by the Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF) and serves as Deputy Country Director at the Association of International Business and Professional Management (AIBPM).
Actively involved in scholarly pursuits, Ts. Dr. Teoh holds editorial roles as Editor-in-Chief for Annals of Human Resource Management Research, Section Editor for SEISENSE Business Review, and reviewer for Psychological Reports. Additionally, he is certified in various therapeutic modalities, including Neo-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Art Drawing-House Tree Person, Mindfulness Love Therapy, Mental Health Coaching, and Choice Theory Reality Therapy.
