Title: Synthesis of two-dimensional Ti3AlC2 nano-ceramic by mechancial alloying
Abstract:
2D transition metal carbide/nitride have exhibited wide application potential in energy storage and conversion. In this work, two-dimentional Ti3AlC2 was prepared by mechanical alloying (MA) from the elemantal Ti, Al, and C powder mixtures under argon atmosphere at room temperature. MA was carried out using a Fritsch Pulverisette 7 type planetary ball mill. The samples were investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDX). Results of XRD showed that the Ti3AlC2 phase was successfuly obtained after 5 h of milling with TiC as impurity. SEM images reveals that the powder milled for 20 h is formed by fine particles and agglomerates. The EDX analysis indicates that the powder milled for 20 h consists of Ti, Al, and C elements.
