Title: Solution-Processed OLEDs

Abstract:

Organic LEDs (OLEDs) have many promising applications in active matrix displays, solid-state lighting, visible light communication, and medical treatment, which make them attractive in fundamental and applied researches. Currently, the production of OLEDs mainly relies on high-vacuum thermal evaporation, which is fairly expensive and complicated. To address this issue, first of all, the highly efficient and solution-processable emitters are required. We managed to developing high-performance thermally activated delayed fluorescence emitters based on material engineering with charge transfer. The solution-processed OLEDs with nearly 100% exciton utilization efficiency could be demonstrated by introducing a small-molecular sensitizer. Based on a proof-of-concept of in-situ post-synthesis, we succeeded in fabricating full-color OLEDs by simply inkjet printing a single-component Lewis acid ink onto a Lewis base seeding layer. Meanwhile, to overcome the mismatch of the interfacial adhesion energy for transfer printing, a sacrificial layer mediated with the traceable amount of water in the polymer was introduced, which made it universal for transfer printing the commonly used organic semiconductors. Overall, the innovative technologies and in-depth understanding of solution-processed OLEDs will pay the way towards large-area and low-cost mass production.
