Title: Development of Algorithm and Calculation of Capillary Tube Deformations During Mandrel Extraction After Long-Mandrel Drawing
Abstract:
Cold drawing of tubes on a long movable mandrel is the only method for manufacturing precision capillary tubes with outer diameters less than 3 mm and wall thicknesses from 0.015 to 0.2 mm. After drawing, the tube tightly grips the mandrel due to residual stresses, making mandrel extraction a challenging technological operation. This study presents a developed algorithm for calculating capillary tube deformations during mandrel extraction using longitudinal rolling in reeling cassettes. A finite element method (FEM) based approach was implemented in the DEFORM-3D software package to model the reeling process. The developed algorithm enables calculation of reeling parameters for the entire range of capillary tubes specified in GOST 14162-79 from various materials. Experimental validation on a universal testing machine REM-100A confirmed the adequacy of the FEM model. The results provide practical recommendations for setting up reeling cassettes in industrial production of precision capillary tubes
Biography:
Sergey Parshin is passionate about computer modeling and optimization in the fields of technological equipment and metal forming processes. He has worked in various industries in the area of modeling, expert assessment of high-tech technical projects, and competitive applications of postgraduate students. He has supervised two doctoral (PhD) students who prepared and defended their dissertations in the field of metal forming processes, and is currently supervising two doctoral students. He is the author of 180 scientific publications, 1 monograph in the field of production of special-purpose shaped pipes, and 30 patents.
Member of the Editorial Board of the journals "Metallurgist" (Scopus Q3) and "Recent Patents on Engineering" (Scopus Q3).
Currently, he teaches the courses “Digital Technologies in Mechanical Engineering,” as well as “Intellectual Property Protection” and “Introduction to Engineering” at the Ural Federal University, where he is also an alumnus. He enjoys hiking in the mountains, cycling, finds inspiration in music, and appreciates the opportunity to travel and share new experiences with his family. He has a professional reading proficiency in English.
