Title: Vibration isolation in plates and shells using elastic metasurfaces
Abstract:
Elastic metasurfaces were introduced in 2016 for wave manipulation, overcoming the drawbacks of phononic crystals and metamaterials. Elastic metasurfaces are compact, easy to fabricate, and free of local resonance effects. Their geometric simplicity readily enables wave redirection, as demonstrated by focusing, anomalous refraction, and mode conversion. However, using metasurfaces to impede propagation and suppress transmission remains challenging. In this presentation, we will offer theoretical models for wave isolation and absorption via elastic metasurfaces, together with design approaches for lightweight, untra-thin vibration mitigation structures.
Biography:
Dr. Yongquan Liu is an associate professor at the School of Aerospace Engineering, Xi’an Jiaotong University, and deputy director of the national demonstration center for experimental mechanics education. His research primarily focuses on elastodynamics, with particular emphasis on elastic wave propagation and control in complex artificial structures. He has published 50 papers in leading international journals, including Phys. Rev. Lett., J. Mech. Phys. Solids, and Nat. Commun. He holds 5 granted national invention patents. He has been selected for the “Future Scientist” Program of the China Scholarship Council and the “Youth Talent Lifting” Program of the Shaanxi Association for Science and Technology, among other recognitions.
