Title: The use of protective coatings made of polymer composite materials in the manufacture and repair of machinery

Abstract:

The parts of transport and technological machines operate under the simultaneous influence of a complex of factors:

• Mechanical abrasive wear

• Shock dynamic loads

• Aggressive chemical environment

• Long service life of machines

• Fatigue failure and vibration: cyclic loads and vibrations of machine parts lead to the accumulation of fatigue damage and deterioration of technical condition, resulting in reduced productivity and safety of machine use.

The combined influence of these factors forms complex mechanisms of damage to parts, significantly reducing machine productivity, working equipment life and increasing operating costs. Traditional strategies for increasing the durability of machine working equipment parts include optimizing cleaning procedures, modifying component geometry, or increasing the hardness of structural materials of parts (using high-hardness materials, quenching, and chemical and thermal treatment of parts during production and repair). These approaches have fundamental limitations.:

• Their effectiveness is limited and does not solve the fundamental problems of protecting parts from external aggressive influences.

• The use of traditional protective coatings often involves significant costs for maintenance, repair and replacement of parts.

• They do not provide long-term sustainability and economic efficiency.

The use of polymer composite coatings applied to the working surface of machine parts is proposed as a technically and economically sound solution. Key components of coating formation:

• Polymer matrix: selected based on materials with suitable complex properties, mainly epoxy resins (EP) and polyurethanes/polyureas (PU/PM).

• Multifunctional fillers: A combination of fillers for various purposes:  Reinforcing fillers (Al₂o₃, SiC) to increase wear resistance;  Solid lubricating fillers (graphite, Mos₂, h-BN) to reduce the friction; Nanofillers (nano-SIO₂, CNT) to improve the mechanical strength and operational properties of protective coatings.

Objective: to achieve a balanced combination of hardness, toughness, wear resistance, chemical resistance and performance properties of protective coatings.
