Title: Queueing Theory versus Reliability Theory: A Case Study for Education and Research in Mathematics, Computer Science and Electrical Engineering
Abstract:
Queueing Theory and Reliability Theory are two fields of Applied Mathematics on the boundary of Probability Theory and Operations Research.
Although these topics have been developed independently, we show here how the results of each topic can be of help to each other, and also help to the mother topic i.e. Mathematics.
In particular, we show how Non Parametric Probability Distributions (Reliability or Ageing Distributions) can be used to compare (stochastically) models of queueing systems or to obtains stochastic or deterministic bounds on the performance measures of Queueing systems and/or Reliability Systems.
We also discuss the interest of Queueing and/or Reliability models to the actually emerging topic of computer security.
