Title: A Terahertz and FTIR spectroscopic ‘ saga ’ of transition metal and rare-earth halides hydration

Abstract:

The basics of hydration dynamics of distinct aqueous transition metals and rare-earth halides is a continued focal point of discussion among numerous researchers. In line with the earlier studies of aqueous halides, now the zinc metal halide ions are investigated using a combined terahertz (THz) and FTIR spectroscopy. Further in the analytical aspect, experimental data are corroborated with theoretical hydration modelling. Using these approaches, terahertz vibrational frequencies linked to various orders of ion-complexations are found. These, acquired yields clearly suggest that Terahertz spectroscopy provides valuable  details about the ongoing ion-hydration mechanism at the molecular level as well as it has promising capability to detect ion-pairing and ion-complexation in the aqueous phase.
